In the Kennel:

Our kennel is full and we really could use your help. If you have some spare time to come out to the shelter, your help would be greatly appreciated. We won’t ask you to scrub the kennels, but doing laundry, washing dishes, sweeping and mopping floors and scooping the yards are all jobs that can be done by volunteers. Not to mention the time you'll spend with one or more dogs/cats during your time here. It's not all playtime here and your help with some of the minor cleaning is a great help to the staff.

We’re sorry to say that our insurance doesn’t allow us to have any minors working inside the SPCA; the liabilities are enormous.  So, if you like to get out early in the mornings (around 8:30 am) and you don’t mind getting a little (or a lot) dirty and have a couple of hours (or four) to spare, we’d love to meet you and introduce you to our dogs. You won’t find a happier bunch anywhere-they’ll talk to you and usually the beagles will get a song going. It does get a little loud sometimes but there’s no place we’d rather be than in the shelter caring for our cats and dogs.

If you can't come mornings to help with cleaning chores, feel free to stop in anytime between 10 am and 2:00 pm, Tues through Sat.

In the cat rooms:

Our kitties are just as needy as our dogs; some of the cats love to be brushed, some just want you to play with them, they all expect treats from visitors and they all are trying to get your attention. Some will sit on your lap while others prefer to sit beside you.

After submitting the volunteer application, you'll go through a brief orientation. On your next visit, you'll receive a free SPCA t shirt and your volunteer handbook. We won't restrict your hours here to certain times; we welcome you when you have some spare time to give our shelter animals. Truly, one half hour a week from you does make a difference. Your time is special to the pet you spend it with and they love the one on one attention.
